www.AccessFirefox.org http://mouserunner.com/blog/2007/04/02/wwwaccessfirefoxcom/ http://mouserunner.com/blog/2007/04/02/wwwaccessfirefoxcom/#comments Mon, 02 Apr 2007 14:28:33 +0000 Ken Saunders Access Firefox http://mouserunner.com/blog/2007/04/02/wwwaccessfirefoxcom/

AccessFirefox.org is a Web site dedicated to offering Firefox add-ons and resources for persons with disabilities, mostly visual ones.
Officially launched in December of 2005, Access Firefox was re-launched on March 20th 2007 with an entirely different design, navigational system, and new site technician, Michael Buckley, a Firefox add-ons developer and coding specialist.
Some of the new features of the site include a comprehensive site map, a menu that when hovered over the text is enlarged, and a configurable site wide settings console which allows a visitor to customize the site’s visual appearance.

Access Firefox was an idea that came to me while searching for Firefox add-ons to assist persons with poor eyesight like myself. I figured that others could benefit from the add-ons that I was just starting to discover. There was a decent amount of Firefox accessibility information around the Internet, but it was mostly for developers and the more technically inclined. I wanted to create a site that focused on helping out the average Firefox end user so I ran some test pages on MouseRunner.com to see if there was a need for a site dedicated to just the one topic and the results were very promising.

At the time, there were no true large and high contrast Firefox themes available so I made a post on the mozillaZine forums to see if I could find a developer to help out in making some themes that I knew would be helpful for persons with poor eyesight.
To my delight, Ed Hume who is a theme developer of many popular Firefox themes stepped up to offer his time and talents and he created the first 2 themes for Access Firefox, HiVisGnome Big, and HiVisGnome Jumbo.
Both themes have large print, large icons and buttons and they are both high contrast.

Recently another Firefox theme developer Konstantin Scheglov and I created the third theme specifically made for Access Firefox, Gray Modern 2 AF which has large bold black text, and large blue and white icons and buttons.
I’m truly grateful to these developers and it would be nice if other theme developers would offer to help out so that Firefox users will have more choices.

So there’s a piece of Access Firefox history. There’s no other site like it in the World and now the primary goal is to make it a portal for Firefox accessibility for end users.
Thanks to the help and support form the Mozilla communities, Access Firefox is sure to be successful in its endeavors.

Icons http://mouserunner.com/blog/2006/08/23/icons/ http://mouserunner.com/blog/2006/08/23/icons/#comments Wed, 23 Aug 2006 17:16:00 +0000 Ken Saunders MouseRunner.com http://mouserunner.com/blog/2006/08/23/icons/ The free icons on MouseRunner.com have gained an exceptional amount of popularity. There’s now been well over 3,000 downloads for them with ColorCons being the most popular.

The icon formats and sizes are: Mac 128×128 Windows 48×48 and 128×128 PNG’s 128×128

I’ve recently completed the next major set of icons entitled PrimaryCons. They just need to be formatted and packaged. They come in red, green, and blue, hence the name PrimaryCons. So far there’s 91 blue ones (my largest yet), and 52 red and green ones. Blue has the most because, well blues are my favorite colors.

Check out all of the free icons in the Sphere Icons Index

Thanks for reading. Ken Suanders

First, on deviantART.com, there have been well over 1,000 page views for them. Also MaxPower.ca has a feature on them, plus they’ve added ColorCons to their list of free icons. This is great because MaxPower.ca gets a ton of visitors daily. Checkout ColorCons and checkout the feature on ColorsCons on MaxPower .
